15N uptake fom manure and fertilizer sources by three consecutive crops under controlled conditions Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Garza,Héctor Mario Quiroga; Delgado,Jorge A.; Wong,José Antonio Cueto; Lindemann,William C..
There are several regions of the world where soil N analysis and/or N budgets are not used to determine how much N to apply, resulting in higher than needed N inputs, especially when manure is used. One such region is the North Central "La Comarca Lagunera", one of the most important dairy production areas of Mexico. We conducted a unique controlled greenhouse study using 15N fertilizer and 15N isotopic-labeled manure that was labeled under local conditions to monitor N cycling and recovery under higher N inputs. The manure-N treatment was applied only once and was incorporated in the soil before planting the first forage crop at an equivalent rate of 30, 60 and 120 Mg ha-1 dry manure. The 15N treatments were equivalent to 120 and 240 kg ha-1 (NH4)2SO4-N...

Criteria for topdressing nitrogen application to common bean using chlorophyll meter PAB
Maia,Suelen Cristina Mendonça; Soratto,Rogério Peres; Liebe,Suzane Maria; Almeida,Adriana Queiroz de.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to establish the diagnostic leaf and the nitrogen sufficiency index (NSI) values most appropriate to estimate N requirement by the 'Pérola' common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), based on chlorophyll meter monitoring. The diagnostic leaf was defined in an experiment with five N rates, and up to four sampling dates of the diagnostic leaves were evaluated (first, second, and third completely expanded leaves from the apex). The NSI was established in two crop seasons, under six N managements: M1, 40 kg ha-1 N at sowing + 80 kg ha-1 10 days after emergence (DAE) + 80 kg ha-1 20 DAE (reference rate); M2, 20 kg ha-1 at sowing + 40 kg ha-1 10 DAE + 40 kg ha-1 20 DAE (recommended rate); M3, 20 kg ha-1 at sowing + 30 kg ha-1 when...

Economics of Pre-Plant, Topdress, and Variable Rate Nitrogen Application in Winter Wheat AgEcon
Boyer, Christopher N.; Brorsen, B. Wade; Solie, John B.; Arnall, D. Brian; Raun, William R..
Past research about the efficiency of nitrogen application in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) based on source and timing has produced inconsistent results. The majority of the literature used data from few locations over short time periods. This study used a unique data set of yields and nitrogen quantities from 2002-2009 at ten different locations in Oklahoma, USA. The objective of this research was to determine wheat yield response for granular pre-plant, uniform foliar topdress, and variable rate foliar topdress. Topdress liquid nitrogen had a 19% higher NUE than pre-plant urea, and was the most profitable source of nitrogen.

Effects of Nitrogen on Productivity, Grain Quality, and Optimal Nitrogen Rates in Winter Wheat cv. Kumpa-INIA in Andisols of Southern Chile Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Campillo,Ricardo; Jobet,Claudio; Undurraga,Pablo.
Nitrogen is one of the main inputs of the winter wheat crop (Triticum aestivum L.) in southern Chile. Nitrogen efficient management is basic to optimizing its utilization while decreasing pollution risks and operational costs. Crop response and N use efficiency (NUE, defined as the ratio of yield to mineral N supply, regardless of source) are important for evaluating N requirements of winter wheat, and reaching maximum and economic yields. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of N rate on grain yield, calculate the N rate that maximizes yield, and estimate the optimal grain yield rate and quality of high-yielding winter wheat cv. Kumpa-INIA. Five annual N rates were evaluated in a randomized complete block design during two successive...

Evaluation of fertilization with uncoated urea and 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP)-coated urea on nitrogen leaching and rose (Rosa spp.) yield Chilean J. Agric. Res.
García-Castro,Alexandra; Restrepo-Díaz,Hermann.
The negative impact of N over-fertilization has acquired importance in rose (Rosa spp.) growers in Colombia. The nitrification inhibitor 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) has been considered a valuable alternative to diminish the N losses by leaching and to enable more efficient N use efficiency in crops. The objective of the present work was to study the effect of DMPP on the mineral N (NH4+- N and NO3--N) content in soil and water leaching, and physiological characteristics of rose plants. A greenhouse experiment was performed for 10 wk. Four-year-old 'Charlotte' rose cultivars grafted on 'Natal Briar' were grown in soil and fertirrigated daily with a complete nutrient solution containing 170 mg N L-1. Two N fertilizers (uncoated urea [UA], and urea...

Natural selection for efficiency in the use of nitrogen in common bean identified by analysis of microsatellites and grain yield Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Leite,Monik Evelin; Lima,Igor Almeida; Pereira,Dyanna Rangel; Santos,João Bosco dos.
This study was carried out in order to verify whether natural selection acts on segregating common bean populations grown in the presence and absence of N, and to verify that natural selection affects the frequency of microsatellite alleles specifically, and in order to identify those that can assist in selection. Four populations from the crosses Ouro Negro x CI-107 and VC-5 x IAPAR-81 were carried forward in bulk to F8 at both levels of N. Ouro Negro and VC-5 are considered stress tolerant to nitrogen and IAPAR-81 and CI-107 responsive. One hundred progenies were obtained from each cross and grown in the presence and absence of N. DNA was extracted from 400 progenies, of which 194 were evaluated in the rainy season and 79 in the winter crop for grain...

Nitrogen availability, leaf life span and nitrogen conservation mechanisms in leaves of tropical trees Scientia Agricola
Corte,Guilherme Nascimento; Macchiaverni,Patrícia; Fabbro,Inácio Maria Dal; Haddad,Claudia Regina Baptista.
Evergreen species of temperate regions are dominant in low-nutrient soils. This feature is attributed to more efficient mechanisms of nutrient economy. Nevertheless, the cashew (Anacardium occidentale- Anacardiaceae), a deciduous species, is native to regions in Brazil with sandy soil, whilst the annatto (Bixa orellana- Bixaceae), classified as an evergreen species native to tropical America, grows spontaneously in regions with more humid soils. Evergreens contain robust leaves that can resist adverse conditions for longer. The physical aspects of the leaves and mechanisms of nutrient economy between the two species were compared, in order to verify whether the deciduous species had more efficient mechanisms that might explain its occurrence in regions of...

NITROGEN SOIL BUDGETS IN CONTRASTING DAIRY GRAZING SYSTEMS OF SOUTHERN CHILE, A SHORT-TERM STUDY R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Núñez,R.P; Demanet,R; Alfaro,M; Mora,M.L.
In recent years, the intensification of livestock production in Southern Chile has resulted in a high potential for environmental damage through nitrogen (N) losses, creating the need for the evaluation of N flows from these systems. The aim of the research was to determine N budgets and N use efficiency in two grazing systems in Southern Chile. For this, inputs and outputs were measured during one year on two grazing systems (heavy grazing, HG; and light grazing, LG). Also, a control treatment with no grazing (C) was considered. The annual N soil budget was determined by the difference between all N inputs (£ inputs) and all N outputs (X outputs). The results of the experiment indicate that HG treatments received the biggest N input (427, 359 and 288 kg N...

Palisadegrass effects on N fertilizer dynamic in intercropping systems with corn Anais da ABC (AABC)
ALMEIDA,RODRIGO E.M. DE; OLIVEIRA,SILAS M. DE; LAGO,BRUNO C.; P. JUNIOR,CLOVIS; TRIVELIN,PAULO C.O.; FAVARIN,JOSÉ L..
ABSTRACT Corn grain yield, nitrogen (N) fertilizer efficiency and distribution to corn alone and three forms of corn and palisadegrass (Urochloa spp.) intercropping implantation was investigated. A field experiment with 15N labeling fertilizer was performed in randomized block design. No form of palisadegrass intercropping implantation affected corn grain yield, total N accumulation and N use efficiency (NUE), which were 8.7 t ha-1, 205 kg ha-1 and 37% respectively. The palisadegrass produced on average 1.9 t of dry mass, absorbing a maximum of 6 kg ha-1 or 5.5% of N fertilizer during corn growing. Furthermore, the palisadegrass did not affect N fertilizer distribution in soil-plant system, in which 28.2% was recovered in the soil and 40.4% in the plants...

Selection of maize top-crosses for different nitrogen levels through specific combining ability Bragantia
Heinz,Rafael; Ribeiro,Larissa Pereira; Gonçalves,Manoel Carlos; Bhering,Leonardo Lopes; Teodoro,Paulo Eduardo.
ABSTRACT An alternative to increase yield without raising the production costs and minimizing the dependence of agricultural inputs is the development of maize genotypes presenting high nitrogen (N) use efficiency under low N level conditions. Thus, the objective of this study was to estimate the specific combining ability of maize top-crosses under high and low nitrogen (N) conditions and to select high-yielding hybrids for both conditions. The grain yield of 110 top-cross hybrids was evaluated in 2012 in two locations in the Brazilian Midwest. Partial diallel analysis was performed with the adjusted means of each of the individual top-cross analyses. Specific combining ability (SCA) of the hybrids and their interaction with N levels was estimated for...

黒ボク土畑土壌における無機態窒素量とリン酸緩衝液抽出窒素量の違いが化学肥料由来窒素の利用率に与える影響 OAK
加藤, 拓; 池羽, 正晴; 谷, 昌幸; KATO, Taku; IKEBA, Masaharu; TANI, Masayuki.
